The Next Harry Potter

For the second time in his life, B attended the Grand Hallows Ball at the bookstore, Borders. It’s a “party” of sorts for the celebration of the release of the next book in the Harry Potter series. When he was 2 ½ we attended the party at Barnes and Noble, but we didn’t stay until midnight that time. That party had activities for the kids. He got a pair of black plastic glasses and made a wand with a dowel rod and glitter. Those were the cutest pictures ever and I don’t have digital copies of them…we were still using a 35mm then. Darn! He still has the glasses and a toy Harry Potter wand that has various sound effects. He wore the glasses and carried the wand to the party on Friday. He was pretty excited when we arrived a little after 10pm. Adults and kids were dressed as witches and wizards from the book. He got a kick out of that and could name most of the characters. Keep in mind, B isn’t old enough to read the books…most of what he knows has been from the movies. I had reserved the new book and we stood in line to get our wrist band, labeled with a number. After midnight when the book went on sale, you were able to check out and purchase the book at the time your number was called. We were number 537! Friends that I work with were also there and one of them traded wrist bands with me because her number was only 150…she had connections! That way I wouldn’t have B there until 3:00am! B got pretty tired, but we were out of the store with our book and a free poster and back in the car by 12:33am. Not bloody bad, mate!
