Take me out to the ball game...

Hmmm...not sure why it uploaded sideways.

Baseball has been over for a few weeks, and I miss it. It was neat to watch the boys start the season not really knowing much about the game and ending the season with skill improvement and new friends. B played two positions - catcher and third base. To be honest, I didn't think he was going to make a very good catcher. I just didn't think he was big enough. I didn't encourage him to catch, but I didn't discourage it either. He loved it though. I think it was because it's a position that gets a lot of action. And once again, he proved me wrong. He was actually pretty good at it. On another note - he is an excellent hitter!

Have you seen my ball?

Jimmie and B had a day off last week just to hang out. The idea was to play putt-putt and visit the batting cages. I'm not sure which one of them had more fun! B did lose his ball in the water hazard. Which seems to be the whole point since there's a net right there to "fish" it out. Do you know who many times my ball would have ended up in the water? Not that I'm putt-putt challenged or anything, I just know my ball would want to go for a swim.

Under Construction

Here are some pictures of our home that is being built. We are all getting very excited now that things are moving along. Sort of looks like a big box right now, but when the porch gets added it will look better! After the foundation was poured, it only took three days to get it this far!

Thrill Addiction In The Making...

B is finally tall enough to ride the roller coasters at Kings Island!! Hooray for 4' 1"!! We took a trip with friends over Memorial Day weekend. We had wonderful weather and a great time! This was B's first time on big thrill rides and he was very brave. He even rode Drop Tower, which is a 267 foot free fall at 67 mph! Loved it! Out of all the coasters, Vortex was his favorite. He also rode, Son of Beast, Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun), The Beast, and Red and Blue Racers. We plan to go again this summer and maybe even during Halloween for Fear Fest. On the way home we stopped at Dave and Buster's. OMG! It's like an adults' Chuck E. Cheese!! We need one of those closer to home. Seriously.

This should be incorporated into one of those "Priceless" commercials. I'll admit - I cropped myself out of this picture - 55 mph is not a good look for me! lol

My Mother's Day

B did make a Mother's Day present for me at school. It was a butterfly with the wings made of his hand prints. It was very cute. He also made a book for me. Inside the book were sentences that he was supposed to complete with things about me. Here are some things he wrote (his words are underlined):

My mom is nice.

I am lucky to have a mom who loves me.

My mom likes to hug me.

Then he drew a picture of me.

My favorite book to read with mom is Socks For Supper.

I love it when my mom plays with me.

When I am sick my mom takes care of me.

My mom makes great spaghetti.

My mom is great because she loves me.

And here is the one that broke my heart...

I wish my mom had a day off.

I think I've said, "I can't wait for things to slow down and we have nothing to do!" one too many times. Thanks for a reality check, buddy! :-)

Sunday morning Jimmie gave B $20 with the suggestion that he take me out for lunch for Mother's Day. So mid-morning B asked me to go to lunch with him and we decided on Fazoli's. We had a great time - just the two of us. People in this city can't drive when it rains and we almost got sideswiped, but great just the same. I am truly blessed to have two great guys who made my Mother's Day very special.

Little minds, big thoughts

Again, we're in the car driving to school. B says, "Mom, I've got a question. I've been thinking about this for a while." Immediately I think "this is going to be good!" and very cheerfully I say, "Let's hear it!" He has wondered what happens to a bug when it's flying beside a freight car that's moving along the tracks. If the bug flies in the car, does it have to keep flying? I asked him if the bug landed in the freight car. He said no. Then I said, yes, it has to keep flying. I explained that (using my hands to make my point) if the bug stopped flying the freight car would move right along and the bug would slam into the back of the freight car. I also told him that if the bug landed inside the freight car, it would be like a passenger and the freight car would carry it along. He understood and seemed to be satisfied that I answered his question. But I thought about this all day...what kind of little mind comes up with this stuff? I'm not saying he's a genius, all I'm wondering is what type of hobbies or career will he choose based on his very methodical mind. Every day is interesting with him and every day something funny or completely off the wall comes out of his mouth! I am soooo tempted to find books or activities to show him or teach him. I know he would love it, but I am a little concerned that he will get bored in school if we already cover this stuff at home. Because if I cross the line of introducing this stuff to him myself, I will end up jumping as high and far over that line as possible...that's my personality. When I focus on something, I become obnoxiously involved! I just want to feed that little mind and see what big thoughts he gets! What a great adventure motherhood is.
