The whole family took a trip to the hardware store on Saturday to buy some cheap carpet for the garage. Sounds silly, but we are converting our garage into our hobby areas. This is hard for me. Cars belong in the garage. Anyway, we picked out the carpet and asked the guy to rotate it down from the big racks overhead and cut it for us. B wasn’t paying much attention at the beginning, so he didn’t see the guy attach the edge of the carpet to the long metal rod and then start rolling it up to the length we needed. He then attached a handle to the end (which B also missed) and moved the tool that cut the entire length of the carpet. It appeared that the sharp cutting edge was being propelled by wheels and was gliding along the carpet all by itself.
B asked, “How is he doing that?!”
Completely out of nowhere I said, “The force is strong in this one,” pointing to the guy cutting our carpet. For a split second he almost believed me. Then I got “the look”.
Playing along, the guy said, “You have to go to special Jedi training for this.”
A few minutes later, J asked how we were getting this home? (It was 12 feet long and looked like it wouldn’t fit in the back of the truck) I told them that he would grab one end and B would grab the other and we would meet them at home. The look on their faces was priceless. Apparently, I can keep a pretty straight face.
B said he would try to lift it when the guy took it off the machine.
“Do or do not, there is no try,” I said.
That remark got the two syllable “Mo-om!”
We loaded the carpet onto the big cart and we thanked the guy for cutting it for us.
He replied, “May the force be with you.”
I have this feeling that my grandkids are going to be named Luke and Leia.
