We had soooo much fun tonight! I rented the movie "The Neverending Story" for B and I to watch together. I remember watching this when I was younger - maybe around ten or eleven years old. My aunt and uncle rented it for me when I stayed at their house for the weekend. I've never forgotten it! B was glued to the screen just like I was...he couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to Fantasia. You should have seen his face at the end when he found out about the little boy that was reading the book in the movie was actually part of the story and could save their world. We even sang along with the theme song as the credits were rolling! It is so cool when you kid enjoys something that you enjoyed over twenty years ago! I think the movie came out in 1984. Gotta love the 80's!
B continues to do really well in school too. He got another A+ on his spelling test...hasn't missed one yet! He told me last night that he couldn't wait until he started 2nd grade. He's only been in school for 6 weeks and already thinking about the next grade. All you want to do when you're young is grow up...then when you grow up all you want to do is be a kid again. Funny, huh? That's got to be one of the best things about being a parent...getting to do all the fun stuff over again and see it through their eyes. What a surprise when they have a different take on stuff than you do. You almost get to learn stuff all over again.
I've got to tell you another story. As we were getting in the car yesterday morning - on the way to before school care - B asked if we could just listen to the music this morning and not talk in the car. At first I thought that was weird and immediately begin to think of what could be wrong. But I took a chance and said, "Sure." and just quietly drove the car. I figured if he was comfortable with expressing his mood and what he wanted, then I should respect that. I then realized that he had learned to express his mood and that made me really happy! How often do we do things we don't want to do or just to please others? I've glad B realizes that sometimes you have to take care of yourself too. I made sure I told him that I appreciated his honesty and he did exactly the right thing...instead of waiting until things got too overwhelming, he simply requested a time out. How cool.
